Camellia japonica ‘Tama No Ura’

One of the most interesting camellias introduced in recent years is ‘Tama No Ura’. This variety is from Nagasaki, Japan, and it first came on the scenes in America in 1978. The small to medium single flowers are very simple on a beautiful plant with dark green foliage. As the plant matures and becomes larger, we have noticed that it begins to have a weeping characteristic. What makes this camellia unique is the vivid white border around each petal. There are other camellias with petal borders, but most are the result of a sport or mutant. The petal borders on ‘Tama No Ura’ are genetic, and this spectacular trait can be passed on to its offspring. This camellia is an excellent addition to any camellia garden!
