Let Us Help You Identify Your Camellias!

Let us help you identify your camellias!

Everyone wants to know the names of their camellias, but that is not an easy task to accomplish. Maybe, you bought a home with lots of old camellias, but you don’t have a clue as to what varieties are in your garden. You might have known the name at one time, but just can remember what the name of your camellia is, and you need help in trying to identify it. There are 1000’s of old name camellia varieties, and we certainly don’t know all the names, but we do know quite a few of them. We would love to try to help you identify your old varieties if we can and here is how we might can help.

During the blooming season, cut some blooms of the varieties that you need help identifying and bring them by our nursery on Fridays or Saturdays from 9:00 until 4:00. Cut the flowers where you have 5-6 inches of stems along with leaves under the flowers. This foliage may help us to identify your camellias. If you can, take pictures of the entire plant as well and bring them when you come. Give us as much information as you know about the plants and the garden. We will hopefully be able to recognize some of them immediately. If not, leave the blooms with us to photograph and think about. We may share these images on social media to try to get others to recognize them somewhere else in the world.

We have a passion for old camellias and for our customers. This is free service that we offer at our Gene’s Nursery location in Savannah. Remember that we are only open on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 until 4:00. Visits at other times have to be made by appointment only. We look forward to helping you unlock the mysterious past of your camellias if we can.
